HAPPY-HOLIDAYS

"Happy Holidays may you be among many family and friends celebrating around the world with children at your feet. Memories of pecan pie from Georgia and streusel from NY and the kids waiting in anticipation of Santa and excited about Christmas.Celebrating customs and traditions, cooking recipes from Nana who usually had the Christmas Parties sure do miss all of the beautiful people who were just hard working southerners. Uncle Milton would dress up as Santa Claus and give out the presents. Bebe would laugh, binki in hand, standing closely by my side. Carols were sung, dinner was laid out and all of the grandchildren and cousins had a good time so.....

"Happy Holidays and blessings for all."

ENVIRONMENT

"SHARKBAIT can rankle nerves because of the name due to a freak accident and as a survivor we now watch others going into the waves. Kind of amazing since according to Dr. Guggenheim shark population's have declined by 90% in the last 15 years. What were the odds that someone like me who only swam 3 times a week in ocean would be bitten?"

"The last 10 years have speed along and we can see that global warming is indeed happening at a faster pace than scientists had allowed. Island inhabitants and their cultures will be lost and we as a nation of all people will lose the environment as we know it. Mom has been adamant about her love of nature and wildlife including the sharks, although she has lost most notably her fearlessness. Some think that overfishing must be occurring everywhere such as with Maine who debated closing their COD fishing this year."

"It is not a matter if you are a conservationist or environmentalist, global warming is here and it will ensure tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, dry deserts with no water in sight, crops will wither and die. Of course this will not happen today and I am very afraid that children around the world will not be taught the benefits of farming their land, co-opting their food. In the Middle East to have the girls plant a garden and get to nurture and tend to it together with other girls in their neighborhood would be a giant success. To watch their vegetables grow with aid of a water pump might possibly change their lives. Planting is such a rewarding endeavor it is very much wished upon the girls of Arabia."

"Girls do not swim in the middle east on the beaches, it is against the law. How I wish their could be an afternoon where they could meet to weave, draw, paint, play piano together. We used to have such art classes here in the USA but as class size grew they had to buy us typewriters and sewing machines. I would love to work with the women in the Middle East and learn some of their batik (tye dying.) Rug work while hard is rewarding to view."

"Getting back to sharks we have been reading about declining populations such as with the Great White Shark in the oceans now on the endangered list. Shark Fining has given haste to the decline in shark populations, although shark meat is eaten it is metallic in taste."

"The new US law protecting Great White's and Whale Shark's is a great accomplishment but we are left wondering about our marine life (coral reef's) in the rest of the world . Cuba who has allowed no imports stayed locked in the 1960's as noticed with all of the classic cars. The special on CBS Sunday night with wonderful footage of Queen's Garden named for Queen Isabella of Spain. CUBA's reefs are beyond words and sharks were in abundance. This is a gem and we hope they maintain vigilance."

Welcome Mr. Shahid Kahn/New Owner of NFL Jacksonville Jaguars

"Congratulations Mr.Shahid Kahn, the new owner of the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars and welcome to the Northeast Florida area. It is exciting for us to have the first minority NFL team owner. Mr. Kahn looked charming, smart and vibrant and came off as a man who gets what he sets out to accomplish. Many children around the globe will see that America and sports (both water and land) bring countries together. They will look for the fresh approach and determined attitude we saw over the evening news to bring more people to Northeast Florida which has so much to offer. We wish you the best and look forward to cheering for our hometown team the Jacksonville Jaguars and your continued success. The area is lucky to have you and well Mr. Kahn you just seem to fit!"

"Let us hope that you will continue what Mr. Jake Godbold started with his hopes of a professional football team. Florida is known for its football enthusiasm and Jacksonville with the old Gator Bowl and Steve Spurrier as quarterback leading the charge. Many of us sat in the bleachers then and watching Tim Tebow and the Gators. Let us hope that with the sale of the JAGS Mr. Kahn will keep the fan base and not move the team. Mr. Wayne Weaver promised us that as long as he owned the Jax Jaguars the team would never be moved from JAX, well he no longer owns the team YOU DO!"

"Florida has always been the spot for winter baseball training season and it is a very diverse state. We will need the influx of Mr. Kahn, his training, his experience in building communities, and influence for our team to make it to the Super Bowl again. Of course it will take a team who is strong has a loyal fan base and the BOLD NEW CITY of the SOUTH. Hans Tanzler, Lou Ritter, Carter and Jake Godbold were all huge football fans and dreamed of this football team."

"Many such as Elizabeth Miranda (JAX Building and Zoning) and others worked to ensure that people were able to build and growth continued in Jacksonville. The City of Jacksonville had many loyal employees such as with Wade Carter who was the man who has the road GATOR SWAMP in JAX, Arlington TOYOTA, many worked hard for the future of Jacksonville and the surrounding areas such as Palm Valley, Sawgrass and St. Augustine. Families live for action sports, they play sports, their children play sports and they all root for the home team."

"As stated Mr. Kahn realizes Jacksonville Aviation Airport delivers international airline travelers and the numbers reflect growth as more international companies move to Jacksonville such as SAFT. Jacksonville as a port city has much to offer and we have all realized that our city looks beautiful when seen on national tv.We watch and wait in anticipation for the next kickoff and winning touchdown!"

"THIS SIGHT IS EXCLUSIVELY USED FOR EDUCATION and we are looking for a local school who would like to incorporate our children into the foundation so that others like us learn about our oceans, the sea and all of the wonderful things which are in their grasp such as marine and environmental science. Surfing is optional!"

Shark-Survivors-Al-Brenneka/Maggie White

"After a recent call and interview by Barry Morgan on Canadian Radio station about our shark survival stories we pictured Al Brenneka on his surfboard in Delray Beach 1976 going out to catch the big waves on Thanksgiving Day. The Sharkbait Foundation team understands some things about the "surf culture" because our family has been into it since birth, something Al, Bethaney Hamilton and many shark survivors have in common."

"Starting with body surfing until Uncle Billy heard of surfboards coming out of Hawaii and California back in the 60's. Jacksonville Beach and the pier is where the waves come in and families enjoy learning about ocean skills. Many children of our families had their first experience "jumping the waves",sailing or fishing. Someone always wanted a weekend trip to sail or camp at the river, fish or surf the waves. The ocean has taught us, and we became activists because of this intense inter connection to water and the ocean or sea around the globe!"

http://www.cjad.com/blog/BarryMorganShow/

"Mom did not explain very well that it was body surfing which helped save her when the shark held her leg in his mouth or that 2 more sharks were spotted coming towards her at the time as documented. Or that she almost lost her leg due to infection. Her voice holds anxiety when she speaks of her experience."

"Without the ocean experience one which involved swimming the ocean, surfing the waves or fishing the shore our education would have been incomplete both in spirit, fortitude and grace. The power of the ocean and the lessons it teaches the global communities should benefit us all."

"Cases would only be noted, now issues are discussed on forums. If not for that survival mode, the panic and anxiety, the pain, and then the search for answers our paths would not have crossed. Al Brenneka, who was a 17 year old surfer in 1976 was one of the first interviewed and televised shark survivors in the world along with Rodney Fox, an Australian diver and fellow shark conservationist. Since that time shark attack research has advanced but no one really knows when a shark might cross your path."

"POSITIVE FLOW"

"Why is it that all the sharks hang on the edge of the ledge?Such as reef sharks, bulls and black tip. We all have experiences which we bring to this discussion. Without others who have been there throughout this wonderful ride we call life, we would not be blogging today. We blog for the generations who like us love the aquatic environment and the thrill of the ride."

"Some of us will never again grace the ocean with our own set of skills, others remain fearless, and some still mourn the loss of loved ones. We promote SURFERS as for some of us it was our board or body which helped us get to shore on our date of survival. We are a unique set of divers or fishermen, sailors, swimmers, and surfers who belong to the so called CLUB and not the one we want to belong to either!"

WE are sending a SHOUT OUT to those who like us live on the edge of the ledge....and will continue with mission, skills and team!"

SHARK

"Taylor Lautner while promoting his new film ABDUCTION in Australia went shark diving while there. Admitting to David Letterman he told the audience he was terrified of sharks. To relieve some of his fear he went diving at a local aquarium in Australia with sharks. It showed a reef shark 10 ft'r 6 inches from his face!"

OCEAN SAFETY and SURFERS

"With all of the shark survivors around the world we wanted to bring attention to those of us who after our experience came together after our survival. The shark world can be deadly as we have read usually taking place in Australia, Africa or Cali by Great White Sharks. But with only 13 lemon shark attacks in the world it was highly unusual for our friend Al Brenneka, diver and fellow survivor to be a shark attack victim by one while surfing." "

"John as seen here was taught about wearing life jackets when just a toddler. He loved to fish and surf like most of the girls and boys on any coast. Children experience their surroundings connecting in ways to their fathers or mothers or grandparents who take them to the shore.

MUSIC

"Coming from a large southern family sports (music) were always a favorite past time, after homework that is. Girls loved the chase (I mean running the ball) and it was all opening up for them.

"In our home we were allowed musical freedom but basics came from Papa Bill, swing played,Detroit,Jersey country played rocked played.Musicians are story tellers who put a beat to their lives on their streets spinning tales from their perspective. And we are here to say it all matters, the arts matter they help complete the soul.As Louis Armstrong played the horn, skilled, he blew his spirit into our very soul and all children know of him from the JUNGLE BOOK, a DISNEY film. In our family Billie Holiday played, show tunes and theatre were at their best.Open their eyes to that which now might be unreachable without these things. We have always been impressed with those who are talented.

"

"With the music evolution there was such a cultural revolution in which we could only be a cosmic part in its lightning speed forward. How wonderful that with these times extreme sports have stepped in to get everyone pumped with passion! Do they realize that sports medicine can help with illness? Such as aquatic therapy does with muscular dystrophy?. SHOUT OUT to the Shark Bait Boys in Australia you actually get to swim with the sharks which combines education and what must be a wonderful organization for these children in their most difficult lives. They will never be the ones who hustle after a ball but they are still loved and respected.. Doctors really can make all the difference and it shows with the Duchenne Foundation in Australia making things relevant, fun and therapeutic for these children! WONDERFUL!"

SHARK-EDUCATION

"We provide shark education - sending a shout out to those who have helped along the way. Laird Hamilton has become a friend and we are getting love from California - Bahamas and places beyond. And of course Carolyn and family get a daily shout out from us too facing a difficult year ahead. We are turning this one into an assignment boys and girls - are you listening yet because you see there are so many ways we need you."

"When sharks come into your life it must be like you know you survived and wonder how why - and why are we all in here together?"

SHARK NEWS

"Sending out our best wishes to Carolyn and family - we are thinking of you and trying to get more effective ads to spread shark education. We thought the girls might enjoy this photo. Liz sends her best wishes too! Did they look at the action picture of her running with the dogs?" "I might try and pull up the newspaper article about the doctor (Surgeon) who just completed the English Channel Swim in Record Time or mention it because he really swam with sharks - unreal right?. 70 years old - must be cold go of it right! I wrote something in hopes that we might get some doctors who wish to donate their time or counseling?" Shark Bait Team LEARN TO SWIM another one at Crescent Beach!

"TEAM"

"Do you ever feel like a shark or like one has bitten you and that from then on things would be CHANGED FOREVER? We spoke to a woman and until now we did not know how another mother might feel. You see things here were even more tragic than others might realize - and since then we have tried like crazy to make things work. Either they do have kids or don't, do have money or not,and they are givers or they are takers. Just like our foundation had to lose one never to return - children do not think kindly about the takers after this incident. Believe us they know about sharks now but we had to let them learn about life first!"

"We never even touched a computer until the hit. When you look at the work we are sending both to VA and to California not to mention Nevada, some don't know what the heck we've sent - so call us!:

Shark SURVIVORS

"I feel very sorry about this man and the loss of his hands being lost to him during the attack in the Telyakovsky Bay. I write this blog to extend our greetings and tell you we are available if you ever need assistance p1ease let us know." "I never knew that water would give you such physical and emotional pain, did you?"
Maggie Sharkbait Foundation Inc. crew 0:38 Russia Shark chomps off man's hands in Russia's Far East 18:12 17/08/2011 VLADIVOSTOK, August 17 (RIA Novosti) Related News * Shark in Red Sea attacks still on loose * Shark attacks: Provoked by humans or ecosystem changes? * Ecosystem damage causes shark attacks at popular Egyptian resort A shark attacked a man swimming near the Russian shores of the Sea of Japan and bit off both of his hands, a doctor from Primorye Territory regional medical center said on Wednesday. "The shark attacked the man in Telyakovsky Bay near the village of Vityaz. It mauled him and bit off his hands," the doctor said, adding that the injured had been taken to a hospital in serious condition. An ichthyologist from the Institute of Marine Biology in the Far East said the shark attack was most likely related to feeding grounds as anchovies move towards shallower waters to warm themselves, though this usually occurs at the beginning of summer. There is now further information about the fate of the shark."

Happy_Fathers_Day

"I was really surprised to read about the other body surfer,  an 86 year old man who is a WWII veteran who was bitten by a shark his name is Bob Brown.  I try to stay on top of these things but my role differs from Al Brenneka who is my friend  and organized the shark attack survivors files extensively. He is the one who puts together a plethora  of information."

"Getting back to Mr. Brown I found it superneat, he was so  refreshing about his shark hit and was in such good spirits after his incident last month at Mickler's.  If anyone knows how he is doing please post I would love to have a chat with him as we have so many things in common...A1A, Navy, sharks and body surfing. I sure hope I am in as good a shape and hold as much charisma as Mr. Brown - he rocked!."
